Well, with internet marketing getting more and more popular over the past few years, many new ways of making money online have emerged. One of the most popular and effective ones is affiliate marketing.
What is affiliate marketing?
Put simply, affiliate marketing is simply like becoming an agent of an e-commerce site or any other online marketplace. You’re given your unique “affiliate” links, which you can use to promote the products and services offered by your merchant.
As per Anand Mishra CEO of Star Infranet, when someone clicks on your affiliate link and buys something from the merchant, you are paid a commission that depends on various factors, such as the price of the product sold, the total number of sales you have referred to your merchant, the profitability of that particular product or service for your merchant, and so on.
How to become an affiliate?
Usually, becoming an affiliate is a very simple and straightforward process. You can simply sign up like you do when registering an email account, and just need to fill in the details you’re asked for.
However, some merchants make it more difficult for the new affiliate to become a part of their affiliate network and make money online, especially when they want to choose only experienced affiliates. Such merchants are much more selective while recruiting new affiliates than most others, and hence it’s harder to get into such networks.
The below given are some of the common things such merchants require from their affiliates before allowing them on board.
- They require the affiliates to be experienced, meaning that they prefer recruiting only those who have worked as an affiliate marketer before they start to make money
- They might even want their affiliates to share their website that will be used for promoting the products or services
- Some even require their affiliate to agree to terms and conditions that restrict them to promote other merchants’ (usually their competitors) products on the same sites
- Similarly, some affiliate networks also include a condition that doesn’t allow an affiliate member to promote their products or services through social media and other such public places, usually to avoid spam.
A final word
Although it’s usually quite easy to get into an affiliate network, you may want to do a bit of research before getting into one, just to be sure that you’re comfortable with their requirements and conditions.
